Rhoda Adoma Attafuah, the founder and majority owner of FoodTym Cuisines, exemplifies resilience, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit. Born in Ghana, she discovered her love for cooking earlier, then established FoodTym in 2018 while pursuing a degree in Accounting. Despite challenges, she used her culinary skills to support herself through school and grew her business successfully.
In 2020, Rhoda met her future husband, married in 2021, and relocated to Canada. Now a mother, she continues to lead FoodTym with dedication. Her mission is to share vibrant African culture through authentic cuisine, contributing positively to the community. Rhoda's story is a testament to the power of passion and hard work.
Sankofa, a term from the Twi language of Ghana, literally means "Go back and get it!" It represents the importance of learning from the past. The concept is deeply rooted in oral tradition societies where history and its custodians, the elders, are revered. Sankofa is also an admonition against arrogance, urging respect for established traditions and wisdom from the past. The Sankofa symbol, represented either by a mythical bird or a stylized heart, embodies a reverence for the past, forebears, history, and elders. The bird reaching back for an egg signifies the diligence required to acknowledge the past and its role in the present. Sankofa holds significant meaning for Africans in the diaspora, often serving as a totem in their quest to connect with their African roots. Despite the painful history of enslavement, the principle of Sankofa encourages learning from the past, acknowledging its flaws, and striving to do better, emphasizing the importance of not forgetting our roots as they invariably influence our lives.
